5 out of 5 stars Amazing quality, incredibly portable, easy-to-use!   November 26, 2008

The MinoHD is absolutely AMAZING and it is a great gift for the holidays.

PHYSICAL FEATURES

--PICTURE AND SOUND QUALITY--
For such a small camcorder, I have to say that the quality of the MinoHD--both in filming and in playback-- is impeccable. It films better than any other camcorder that I have and it captures sound very well. Upon playback, video is crystal-clear and sound is crisp. I took my camcorder to the beach and it captures all sounds--the seagulls, the wind, the waves, everything. Don't underestimate this product due to its size--it's great!

--DESIGN--
The design is both aesthetically and ergonomically appealing--the camcorder is very sleek and looks shiny and polished. My friends keep asking me, "What is that? That's so cool." (Yeah, it is pretty cool!). It is also designed to grip easily in your hands so it's really easy and comfortable to use.

--SIZE--
The MinoHD fits RIGHT IN MY POCKET and could easily fit in a purse, wherever you want to bring it. Who would have thought that you could find an HD CAMCORDER THAT WAS PORTABLE?? It's so much easier to carry this around than a bulky camcorder or camera.

--FUNCTION--
The MinoHD is really easy to use. There are only a few buttons on the MinoHD, which takes a lot of the hassle and confusion of trying to figure out how to start filming. The screen is bright and easy to read. The camera has a zoom that works while you're filming. It stores 60 minutes of video--which is a lot for a little device like this. It charges through the USB port of your computer.

--COMPATIBILITY--
The flip-out USB extends after pressing a button on the side and my Mac instantly identifies the camcorder once I plug in the USB.

This is a great product for everyone--I love my MinoHD Camcorder!

5 out of 5 stars Whats there NOT to like? Exceptional Device!   November 26, 2008

I own a regular flip which I have used for everything from birthday parties to taking video of server rooms to help me in my job. I now have the Flip MinoHD.

I am not going to try to give you another detailed review...but understand this. This device costs a little more then $200 and records HD video at 720p...which is more then adequate for daily HD use. Its not 1080p, and in my humble opinion, it does not need to be! It is a compact camcorder that records in HI-DEFINITION.

Which part do you not like at this point???

Yes the little screen is a bit small...but if you think about it..the camera would not run for long at all on the internal battery had it a bigger screen. (For those with an iPhone, you know what I mean).

The zoom is limited to 2x - but what are we trying to achieve with this camera. It is a pocket sized HD camera that is not intended to make a motion picture. It does what it should and it does it PERFECTLY.

The box includes:
Camera
Wrist Strap
Microfiber Pouch - which for me also works as a polish cloth. :-)
AV Cable to connect to TV
Manuals , etc.

The warranty covers the product up to 90 days, which is about the norm these days.

The USB functionality allows you to use it on a PC or a MAC and it works flawlessly out of the box.

When you first turn it on it takes you through setting the date and time....save and you are ready to shoot. I love the controls on the back of the unit....they are touch sensitive. The only physical button is the record/stop record button... The right hand side has a power button. The left side has a slider switch to flip open the usb connector.

From the press of the 'BIG RED BUTTON' to actual recording is a nano-second...very very fast...faster then most camcorders. Stopping the recording is similar.

You can review the videos you have recorded on the device itself, delete them etc..

The FlipMinoHD has a sealed battery which charges off of the USB port on your computer. An optional AC adapter is available.

My thoughts - if you want compact, efficient, quick, and above all HD....get the MinoHD. If you are looking to make another Hollywood flick....you need to look elsewhere.

UPDATE 11/26/2008
I found a great review from Andy Ihnatko on his website.
He is a renowned expert and writes for the Chicago Sun times:

He compares both the Kodak and Mino HD with samples.
Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Man buys Flip, has video epiphany.   January 28, 2009

You've probably read a few reviews by now and have formed your own opinion about the video quality, sound quality and what it does, so I'm going to tell you what I really think of this camera.

What prompted me to write the review in the first place, after a month of owning the camera, was a moment of awe when using the Flip video software. While watching TV, absentmindedly clicking around and importing video, I looked down and forgot that I was looking at video. The screen like any other iPhoto or Picasa application, I was like looking at photos. Scrolling through I was impressed with the quality of these pictures, some with really great lighting, others with neat angles. Interesting pictures that made me think why would I take a picture of tha... their video. I can PLAY these pictures. A real "Harry Potter moving pictures" zen moment.

This camera is fantastic. Period.

I've had it for a month and, waiting for that million dollar moment, I've carried it in the front pocket of my jeans everyday. It's been ice fishing several times, snowed on and handed around. I leaned on a pool table while it was in my pocket, heavily, for half the game before I realized and switched it to another pocket. It was unfazed. I basically forget that it's there. The little soft cloth bag they give you is great, if' I'm just filming something quick I don't even take the camera all the way out, just open and film.

The comments about lightweight, hard to film with...pffff, whatev. Unless your Andre the frickin' giant you'll be OK. You'll quickly learn good technique to getting great video. Smooth pans, be conscious of keeping it steady while moving, hold shots for a little before panning or pan extra slow (you can always edit out later, you might want to use that extra) and try new things.

The quality of the video continually impresses me. The HD picture is crisp, bright, colorful and it adjusts to lighting conditions very fast. The sound is also great. I'm very impressed with how well it works in noisy and windy conditions.

I couldn't ask for more out of this camera. It's VERY well made. It says what it does and it does what it says. If you're considering it. Buy it.

Here are some videos that I shot with it. Search Vimeo for Flip Mino HD to see more good examples.

(If they seem to skip at all it's the streaming, pause and move the playhead back a bit and play)

5 out of 5 stars Great camera, but beware you older Mac users.   April 4, 2009

A previous comment to the popular "Mac users" post is correct in that if you have an older Mac (my iMac is from 2004 and it's considered older for the Flip), then this camera will be USELESS for your computer. You cannot watch video with a 1.8 Ghz PowerPC Procecessor. It is liteally unwatchable because the video freezes a lot. You need a newer, faster Processor as found on all newer Macs.

Otherwise, this camera is GREAT. Clear video, sound, so incredibly EASY to use that you'll actually use it and bring it on vacation instead of leaving it at home or in your hotel room.

Works on my wife's PC and I was planning on buying a new iMac this month so I'll be fine. Again, the camera is useless on an older Mac, including my 2004 iMac.

5 out of 5 stars Great Form Factor and True 720p HD   November 12, 2008

It may not be full 1080p, but 720p is HD plus on-board storage and a good form factor did not warrant the 1 star response
